Canon Nelson Skinner
Rector Emeritus

Canon Skinner was the Founding Rector of our parish.  Canon Skinner was born in 1927, raised in nearby Baldwinsville, and was a combat veteran, wounded in action by a sniper in Korea in 1950. He received a Purple Heart, and later graduated from Hobart College and Nashotah House. He was ordained to the Priesthood in 1963, and served in various parishes and military chaplaincies, until finally becoming a counselor for the Veterans’ Administration. He and a faithful few started this Church in his kitchen, before moving on to a hardware store in Liverpool, and finally purchasing our historic building in 1994.  Father Skinner went on to serve St. Mary’s until his death in November, 2014.  We remain eternally grateful to him for helping to have a church of our own where the traditional Catholic faith can be taught and the true Mass can be celebrated.
